BHU DOCTORS PERFORM RARE SURGERY

14-DAYS OLD CHILD OPERATED AFTER THREE FETUSES WERE FOUND IN ABDOMEN

 

Varanasi. Doctors at the Department of Pediatric Surgery, Sir Sunderlal Hospital, have carried out a successful surgery in a rare case of fetuses found in the abdomen of a 14 days old child. The child was presented with complaints of abdomen distention, jaundice and respiratory difficulties since birth. He was referred from the peripheral health centre after the XRay revealed presence of 3 skeletal systems in the abdomen. The child was admitted under Dr. Ruchira, in the Pediatric Surgery Department at Sir Sunderlal Hospital. After admission, Ultrasonography and CT Scan were conducted on the child which confirmed the presence of fetus in fetu. The three fetuses in abdominal cavity had displaced the common bile duct and kidney. The child was operated on 10.04.2023 by Dr. Ruchira with other team members including Dr. Seth, Dr. Chetan and Dr. Greeshma. Anesthesia team was headed by Dr. Amrita. The surgery was extremely difficult and complicated because of common bile duct displacement and lasted for 3 hours. This is a rare disease found in only one of 5 lakhs cases. The child is currently admitted in Pediatric Surgery ward and is stable.
