Amrit Yuva Kalotsav (Day 2)
“Amrit Yuva Kalotsav”, a youth centric festival organized by Sangeet Natak Akademi in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Government of India and Faculty of Performing Arts, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi from 28 February 2023 to 3 March 2023 in which the artists honored with Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar 2020 performed.
On the second day of this grand event, various performances were held of vocal, instrumental, dance and drama by the artists awarded in the year 2020.
The chief guest Padmashri Rajeshwar Acharya and the distinguished guest Padmashri Shivnath Mishra were honoured.
In the first presentation of the second day of Amrit Yuva Kalotsav, dated March 1, 2023, Mr. Kishore Haridas Whatkar, gave a spectacular presentation through his lecture and demonstration on Tabla named ‘Tabla Nirman’. All the students and artists were benefitted by this lecture. After this, Mr. V. Prakash Ilaiyaraaja started his performance with the invocation Paraparaparmeshwar of Lord Vishweshwar on the instrument ‘Nagaswaram’ of South India, whose lyrics were “Paap Nasham Shivswaram” which was set in Taal Adi and raga Vachaspati. He gave a wonderful rendition of Muthuswami Dikshitar’s “Annapurne Vishalakshi” composed in Raga Shyam and Taal Adi. Thereafter, “Vaishnav Jan To” composed by Sindhu Vishweshwar, dedicated to Ustad Bismillah Khan, was presented in Raag Malika.
This was followed by a beautiful presentation of another South Indian percussion instrument “Mijavu Thayambaka” which is the main accompaniment in Kuttu and Kutiyattam, by Mr. Vinish Kunju. After this, Mr. Abhishek Nigam and his fellow artists presented the folk music of Madhya Pradesh starting with Santdas Narayan’s composition “Vaari Jaaoon Re, Balihari Jaaoon Re”, Mirabai’s composition “Hamre Satsang Ma Hamre Bhajan Ma”, Sant Bhawani Nath’s composition “Mat Kar Kaya Ko Guman, Mat Kar Maya Ko Abhiman”, Sant Brahmanand’s composition “Jogan Ban Jaungi” and Meerabai’s composition “Keshariyo Rang Rootho Nai Bhave Rang Ma” enthralled the whole audiences.
After that “Mand”, a folk song of Rajasthan, was presented by Mr. Kheta Khan Manganiyar and his group. Through this presentation of Manganiyar, the audience received a first-hand experience of the rich art and culture of Rajasthan. At the end of the program, a play named ‘Nadi Pyaasi Thi’ directed by Mr. Sarfaraz Hasan was presented. The drama was presented by the experienced artists in such a way that the audience was completely enthralled.
Sourav Chakraborty compeered the entire cultural programme. Prof. Shashi Kumar, Mr. Premchand Hombal, Mrs. Mala Hombal, Prof. Sharda Velankar, Prof. Sangeeta Pandit, Prof. Sangeeta Singh, Mr. Devovrat Mishra, Dr. Khileshwari Patel and various artists from Varanasi graced the occasion with their presence.
