National Brainstorming Workshop on Technology Vision 2047

Varanasi। National Brainstorming Workshop on Technology Vision 2047 – The Banaras Hindu University is hosting a TIFAC conducted two-day national level brainstorming workshop on 20th and 21st march, 2023 to formulate the Technology Vision 2047 (TV-2047). The meeting is co-ordinated by Dr Geeta Rai, Department of Molecular and Human Genetics, BHU. The workshop is aimed to discuss and design the futuristic technology under the umbrella of TIFAC. On day one of the workshop Prof. Pradeep Srivastava, Executive Director, TIFAC described the aims of Technology Vision-2047. Eminent scientist and researchers from various parts of country having expertise in different field such as Health and Drug technologies, Défense, Climate and Green Energy, Food and Agriculture, Automation and ICT were gathered in BHU. The chief guest of the workshop was Dr G. Satheesh Reddy, Scientific Advisor, Défense Minister (GoI). Dr. Reddy spoke about the technical achievements and challenges of the country and also gave his suggestions to make India technologically self-reliant and global leader by 2047, when India celebrates its anniversary of independence. Dr. Reddy who is also the former secretary of DRDO told that when in 1958 DRDO started, it was a testing and quality assurance facility, however, few of the visionaries like Dr. Abdul Kalam has transformed it. Similarly, visionaries like Dr. Homi Bhabha, Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, Dr. Satish Dhawan, Dr. Visveswaraya etc contributed immensely in the technological advancement of India. He narrated that at the time of independence, there were very few research institutions in the country, which has increased tremendously now. Opening the education to private sector has also improved the overall educational enrolment. However, the problem of quality education and innovation still persist in the country, and this is the reason why India is still a follower in global technology sphere and waste huge foreign exchange in importing it. He told that if India has to become a global technology leader, our researchers and youth have to leave the fear of failure and will have to work on crazy and disruptive ideas. He also presented technological achievements of India, which are manifesting in the form of Make in India, Start-Up India, Skilled India etc. He asserted that we have to aggressively work on the technology related to the advanced materials, energy, communication, manufacturing, software development etc to make India a global technology leader. Apart from Dr. Reddy several other speakers such as Dr R. S. Verma, Director MNNIT, Allahabad; Dr T.N. Singh, Director IIT Patna; Dr. H.B. Srivastava, Director General, TMD, DRDO; Dr Manmohan Parida, Director, DRDE; Dr Tusar Kanti Behera, Director IIVR; Dr Rajesh Kumar, Principal Scientist, IIVR; Dr L C Rai, Botany, BHU; Dr B. K. Singh, Dept of Physics, BHU, Dr Shantanu Pande, SGPGI,Dr D.C, Rai, Department of Dairy Science and Food Technology; Dr Abhishek, IIT Kanpur; Dr Suchi Yadav from JNU and Dr Uma Kanga, AIIMS, New Delhi and many eminent personalities shared their view on the TV-2047. Professor Anil Tripathi, Director, Institute of Science, and Dean Dr M Agarwal, BHU, also graced this meeting and suggested the various technologies developed in past and got appreciated for the betterment of society such as development of plastic, discovery of fossil fuel have turn out to be devastation now, thus our technological devolvement should also be aimed to avoid this kind of deleterious effect from the technologies developed in the future. Feedback from the Indian Diaspora was also received in this meeting.
