BOOSTING START-UP ECOSYSTEM: UTTAR PRADESH GOVT. TO PROVIDE Rs. 1.5 CRORE TO BioNEST-BHU

· BioNEST-BHU selected for “Start in UP”

Varanasi. In its attempt to implement the UP Start-Up Policy 2020 and create a wide network of start-up incubators in Uttar Pradesh, the State Government has selected BioNEST-BHU for financial support of Rs.1.5 crores to provide incubation support to the entrepreneurs and start-ups of Uttar Pradesh. The BioNEST-BHU was established in the Central Discovery Centre of Banaras Hindu University in 2019 with a generous support of Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), New Delhi. Under the leadership of Prof Anil Kumar Tripathi, a Professor of Biotechnology and Director, Institute of Science, BioNEST-BHU has created 15 furnished rooms with two well-equipped laboratories to provide incubation support to faculty members, researchers, innovators, and start-ups working in the field of Life sciences, Biotechnology, Healthcare, Agriculture, Food Technology, Energy, Waste management, and other allied areas. BioNEST-BHU helps startups/innovators in writing grant applications and pitch ideas before investors to support the development of research-based products. Currently, 08 startups of BioNEST-BHU are working in different fields that have the potential to become unicorns in the coming years. The “Start in UP” grant will be used to support the entrepreneurs of UP by providing them guidance, mentorship, access to research and analytical facilities in promoting bio-based entrepreneurship. With the continued efforts of BioNEST-BHU team to promote entrepreneurship in BHU and neighboring region, three entrepreneurs of BioNEST-BHU succeeded in getting the prestigious “Biotechnology Ignition Grant” worth Rs 50 Lakhs each from Department of Biotechnology, Govt of India.
